The Bank of Japan said on Monday its latest quarterly ''tankan'' survey showed a modest improvement in business sentiment in the three months to December, supporting views that the world's second-biggest economy is headed for recovery. The closely watched corporate survey's sentiment index for big manufacturers rose for a fourth consecutive quarter to minus 17 from minus 22 in September, though falling slightly short of economists' median forecast of minus 15.
