No way this proposal goes through as suggested. The volume, especially on the nasdaq is key to MM firms.

NITE/Trimark would be a good short once they erase a certain amount of "potential" turnover by cutting back the customer portential?

The problem would also be? If a trader who is not so endowed splits his $50k over 3 or 4 brokers? Impossible then. For me it would mean I may have to increase funds at my smaller broker accounts (some people have "backup" accounts for emergency purposes, to short a stock when they have not access to a main broker etc...).

And, as you mentioned, if one loses "equity" because some stocks fall, he is excluded of the business, in part.
