Are you saying that it IS okay to leave a sick baby, or any baby at all, really, in a car? I think it was reasonable to at least investigate the home situation in that case. Leaving eight-year-olds home alone is really debatable. Almost everyone does it at some time, and usually nothing bad ever happens because of the law of averages. I couldn't do it, and am always concerned even when my sixteen-year-old is home alone. I think it must be really sad and lonely for most children to be alone so much, though, if they are at home alone every day after school. I'm not sure that it is a reason to take a child away from its parents, though, unless there is real abuse or child endangerment.
