Redhat, Debian, SUSE and Caldera can't be compared to Corel whose focus has been the 80's bloatware they got from Novell while trying and failing to deliver Java, Network PCs and a host of other products. Adding value isn't taking a working product and stripping off core components.
The Linux community gives Corel the benefit of the doubt since they have a history of Microsoft bashing. I guess they don't realize that Corel is just the same bloatware office product that Microsoft offers, only worse. Check out these comments and see what you think. Keep in mind these guys are throwing underhanded softballs with white gloves, still they could not bring themselves to recommend Corel's distribution and the choice boiled down to anything but Corel. Hey, think they might actually ship Wordperfect that doesn't fail with their own Linux distribution anytime soon? Sorry, I just can't ignore the long list of Corel attempts ending in disaster.
Sure, they did keep the Novell hand-me-down alive so we have to assume they are capable of doing some maintenance and support development work on 80s bloatware, but not much else. Their revenues are less than $300 million, so what happened to all those plans to grow the company in the past? Do you really think they are going to set the World on fire with outdated bloatware for Linux? Do you really think the company has changed. You watch, this company does a lot of singing and dancing but when the rubber hits the road they have nothing tangible in terms of revenues.

Save yourself the pain and agony and get redhat Linux with Sun's StarOffice 5.1! I would rather put together my own Linux distribution than trust Corel. |
