Oh, I don't think it was ok for the lady to leave the kid in the car, at all. I was offering it as an example of what types of things CPS gets involved in that may seem trivial to some. We had started with spanking, and touched on the extremes, and I just wanted to provide an example that wasn't an easy call. After all, she didn't have a husband, or anyone to watch the child, so she didn't really have much choice but to take it with her to the drug store, and I can sympathise with not wanting to carry a sick baby in the rain, so I knew she did what she thought was right. Objectively, it wasn't a good decision, but subjectively, she felt like she was doing the right thing.
