In context of assault, which is the original context of the statement, the Mrs. would have no problem at all with it. Were something like that to happen to her, both she and I of course would be crushed, deeply wounded, changed. And to be honest I would likely, given the opportunity, bend the fullest hatred and force of my human nature upon my assailant, even long after the fact of the assault. But I would eventually give it all up, to forgive and be free.
As for my wife, we married for better or worse, and that includes the worst of the worse. She should not develop hatred or a sense of innate moral superiority against her sons, her husband and father, allowing this to eradicate what we have had all these wonderful years, this, simply because some wicked man preyed upon us. That would be to allow him to take too friggin' much. Assault washes off, and as long as the assailant didn't take life, he then should not be allowed even one millimeter toward taking away the joy of life. |
