RESEARCH ALERT - Salomon upgrades E&P stocks
NEW YORK, Dec 13 (Reuters) - Salomon Smith Barney said Monday that analyst Thomas Driscoll had upgraded the stocks of four oil and natural gas exploration and production (E&P) companies to buy from outperform and reiterated his buy ratings on eight others, saying the group's shares ``are now cheaper than we have seen during the last six years.'
-- said that ``continued warm weather and a continued tech stock rally could lead to continued poor E&P stock performance. However, we think that investors with more than a 60-day time horizon should aggressively purchase E&P shares.'
-- upgraded Vastar Resources (NYSE:VRI - news), which was up 1-7/16 to 56.
-- upgraded Pioneer Natural (NYSE:PXD - news), up 3/8 at 8-1/8.
-- upgraded Burlington Resources (NYSE:BR - news), up 2-1/8 to
33-1/16.
-- upgraded Noble Affiliates (NYSE:NBL - news), up one to 20-3/4.
-- reiterated buy rating on Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC - news), up
one at 31-3/16.
-- reiterated buy rating on EOG Resources (NYSE:EOG - news), up 1-1/16 to 16-11/16.
-- reiterated buy rating on Santa Fe Snyder (NYSE:SFS - news), unchanged at 7.
-- reiterated buy rating on Union Pacific Resources (NYSE:UPR - news), up 9/16 at 12-5/8.
-- reiterated buy rating on Vintage Petroleum (NYSE:VPI - news), up 1/8 to 10-3/16.
-- reiterated buy rating on Talisman Energy (Toronto:TLM.TO - news), down 1 at 24.
