Agreed.

But the reasons why the dominant network owners are ratcheting are not important (actually the REAL reson why the PTT's are aggressively lowering their price is NOT because of Internet Telephony! IP telephony have virtually no market share and very little backbone long-haul traffic is being routed through IP protocol. The upstarts that have entered into the market are the ones that have been applying pressure -- as they are trying to steal market share and for the long-haul traffic, they are using combination of their own ATM based network and buy from other transoceanic carriers (guess who! the PTT's!) and in some cases, leaky PBX's with leased circuits compressed 10 to 1...........

All this is irrelevant however -- the point is the dominant network owners and PTT's are not going to dissappear and in fact they will do whatever it takes to CONTROL BOTH DATA and VOICE network --- even if they have to buy their way!
