Actually the ones who will cease to exist will be the "Old" telecoms going forward. It will be a great battle but the nimble startups like Quest will eventually bury the AT&T's of the world. I've seen it happen so many times before in Technology. The old telcoms just have too much dead weight hanging around that is acting like an anchor. Some will survive if they are hungry enough to eat their young and really want to survive. So many people think only "one house" can invent the new technologies and that is a fatal flaw. Lucent has the remnants of Bell Labs but a lot of other organizations and businesses are "inventing" out there. I am looking forward to the "old world" being torn down so we can see continued innovation. The Telecomunications Act of 1996 is well on the way to being implemented and it's about time! The way I see it there is well over a $trillion to be spent in the next 5 years and the pot is bigger than any one company to supply. JMHO! Eric
