Good afternoon MM:

Metromedia Fiber Networks is a Gilder fave, I think, and has plenty of dark fiber (fiber that can be lit up later when needed); their purchase of AboveNet earlier this year threw shareholders for a loop. But as you know, they are coupling AboveNet (a Web-hosting outfit like Exodus) with the pipes, a strategy that bears some resemblance to Global Crossing.

There has been little or no discussion here of MFNX; but this is a telecommunications hotbed and I am sure many here would enjoy a discussion. You would have to lead the discussion. But many here would pose some very good questions that would eventually solidify your understanding of the company. If it is a great company and very well positioned, you will find many here jumping in, as with Qualcomm and Gemstar.

I agree with Bruce Brown. A presentation here related to market share, its position as a king or gorilla candidate, switching costs, barriers to entry, valuation, and such would be appreciated. My general sense is they have no special intellectual property rights, but are one of many vendors (last mile?) and hence, a royalty play. If their market share is less than twice the nearest competitor, they are likely a Prince in a royalty game.

Checking out the thread header will provide you with references on the GG, and to TFM, should you not yet be familiar with them.
