CSCO claim its router can scale to 5Tbit, so do NN ATM switch/router.
In NN case we know it is real 50 Gig and 450 is coming in 3-4 months.
The question is what is a real available speed on CSCO gear now.
How well network can be manage.
Also in CSCO case it is not ATM switch,
Big boys like SBC,BT ,ATT need ATM switch, where ISP or carrier like Quest Comm. wants routers.
On recent CC D.Listwin satted that CSCO will have real 40 Gig seed by mid of the 2000 year, and 180 gig by the end of the 2000 year
So todays announcemet only tells us what is possible not what is real now.
Considering CSCO track record is delivering carrier class soultions, I have lots of doubts about todays CSCO press release.
And I want to say again, I am taling only about CSCO very poor track record in delivering carrier class gears, not performance, based on enterprise solutions.
