There is also a good possibility they can't be used together. What is the URL for your motherboards manufacturer? If they have a copy of the manual for their motherboard online

aopenusa.com How to install an external SCSI device? addresses the issue of using both connections. At the bottom of the page is a diagram of how using both connectors should be setup and is the model I have been using. From all indications here using both connectors is totally koscher.

The actual manual is a PDF downloadof sorts linked from aopenusa.com This will expand into 7 or 8 separate PDF files. I find the FAQ page, above, covers the scsi setup adequately.
