What are the development tools of today or tomorrow ?

A good question which I have been exploring for some time.

If its java - progress has Apptivity.

Apptivity was considered hot when PRGS bought it, but sure hasn't seemed like a top contender since then. It doesn't seem to be anywhere close to offering the full suite of J2EE functionality, which I would consider to be the standard these days.

For Object Orientated with GUI then progress has smart objects.

Don't make me laugh! P4GL is not OO and the so-called smart objects aren't even a particularly good example of P4GL development.

To be sure, you are right that the ChUI applications can go on for a while, often because they are competing against no better. But, that certainly doesn't make them leading edge and does raise questions about how long they will last without migration.

complete development solution for the enterprise.

More than any one area, P4GL is extremely weak in distributed computing issues which are critical for both distributed deployment and scalability, core enterprise issues.

PROGRESS are perhaps trying to hedge their bets....

Not exactly the stance of a leader!

Is theres a company out there with a better product suite ?

Yes, Forte.
