Its in print...this is a first !
This provides compelling evidence for the presence of richly diamondiferous kimberlites in the region. Moreover, the morphology and surface textures of the grains indicate that they have undergone minimal transportation in the secondary environment, implying that the source kimberlite(s) should be close by.

Kennecott have recently completed their 1999 summer field program, which consisted of follow-up indicator mineral sampling in high priority areas, as well as additional regional reconnaissance sampling. Processing of the samples is well underway at Kennecott?s Thunder Bay laboratory, and results are expected later in the year. [top]

In addition to the first order targets, six second priority areas were also defined in the KAP South claims. These areas will require further sampling to verify the potential for locating the primary source(s) of the indicator minerals. Two promising target areas were delineated in the KAP Central area and ten dispersion haloes of kimberlite indicator minerals were delineated in the KAP North area.

In summary, results to date on the KAP Project are very promising in that both geochemical and geophysical evidence suggests a high probability of locating kimberlite intrusions. Moreover, the compositional characteristics of certain key indicator minerals imply that some of these kimberlites should be diamondiferous....DD
