Have there been any Bank Holidays in our era? During the Depression I believe the cash economy was probably more important than the check (cheque) economy. So, I ask you, if we had one today, would back office personnel still report in to process checks and credit card receipts? Or is it like hitting the circuit breakers and suspending trading on a stock exchange. Everyone catches his breath, takes a moment to stare into the abyss, and then the battle resumes.

Perhaps simplistic, but food for thought.
