FRANKLIN, Mass. (Dow Jones)--Thermo Optek Corp.'s (TOC) VG Semicon unit received orders of more than $11 million for multiple molecular-beam epitaxy systems. In a press release Monday, the company said the orders from unidentified buyers are mostly for its V150 molecular-beam epitaxy systems. The systems, scheduled for delivery over the next 12 months, will increase customers' capacity to produce gallium arsenide epitaxial wafers, the company said. The wafers are used to make critical components for cellular telephones, satellite television systems and other high-speed wireless communications products.
Thermo Optek, which makes analytical instruments, earned $33.9 million, or 66 cents a basic share and 63 cents a diluted share, including charges, for the year ended Jan. 2. Revenue were $447.3 million.
