* While the 12016 appears to offer significant improvement in performance,
it does not represent a quantum leap in technology for Cisco. Instead,
it appears that Cisco has built a new switching fabric that enables it
to scale the existing 12000 platform to OC-192c. Cisco stated that its
current ASICs allow each line card to achieve a packet forwarding rate
of 4 mln packets per second and a future release of ASICs will allow
significantly higher performance. The quick time to market for the OC-
192c interface appears to have been driven by the acquisition of
StratumOne which was making framing chips. The 12016 has not yet been
independently tested against competing products.

(Typical Cisco, "mine is bigger, better, and faster than yours but Im not going to show you cuz I dont have to.")
