I was wrong. I had forgotten that you were successfully using both the 50 pin and 68 pin SCSI connectors before you tried to install a trouble making external Jaz drive.

Thanks for posting the link to the Aopen page on using SCSI devices with their motherboard. It was very informative.

I don't know if you want to fight this problem any more, waste any more time on it, but if you do, you might try separating your 68 pin and 50 pin SCSI devices. Connect only your hard disk to the 68 pin SCSI connector and connect your CD-ROM and Jaz drive to your 50 pin SCSI connector. No guarantees but it is similar to your original setup, which worked.

I am scrapping the bottom of the barrel but did you notice the comment on the bottom of the Aopen page about sometimes the drivers supplied with Windows 98 incorrectly terminating the motherboard adapter after boot up? In other words are you using the latest Adaptec drivers?
