WALTHAM, Mass., Dec 13, 1999 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Oak
Industries Inc. (NYSE: OAK) has announced that its Lasertron, Inc.
division has signed a two-year, multi- million dollar contract with a
leading telecommunications equipment provider to be the majority
supplier of Distributed Feedback (DFB) lasers for its Metropolitan
Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) transmission system. It is
anticipated that the revenue from this contract could range from $30 to
$50 million.

The Lasertron QLM715 family of Directly Modulated DFB lasers offers
exceptional dispersion performance and wavelength stability to meet the
performance requirements of cost-sensitive Metropolitan WDM systems.
Lasertron also offers complete wavelength availability from 1528 nm to
1605 nm, enabling a broader and more cost-effective means for
increasing channel counts.

"Lasertron is proud to have secured a long-term agreement to supply the
majority of this customer's DFB laser requirements through 2001,"
stated David Nislick, Vice President of Marketing at Lasertron. "This
contract confirms Lasertron's position as a volume supplier of WDM
transmission channel components. Additional transmission products will
be brought to market in 2000 for both Metropolitan and Long Haul
applications, encompassing higher power, higher data rate capability,
and increased functionality."

In October, Lasertron announced that it had secured a lease on 30,000
square feet and received Board approval for a $10 million investment
proposal to expand the manufacturing capacity for DFB transmission
lasers.

Lasertron is a manufacturer of DWDM active fiber-optic components used
