the only problem I am having is figuring out are we getting ready for a january launch like everyone is anticipating, or will we get
a january head fake-- money pours in, big jump, then mutual funds start selling to lock in last years gains,

Carpe,

I still believe we will have at least 2 to 3 weeks of strong upward moves in the markets come January. . . regardless of whether we sell off in December or not. Remember that budgeted corporate & institutional money is released for investment come January first. . . .likewise, bonus money gets thrown into the mutual fund pot, typically at any level. . .and large investors often move their money around in the first few weeks of January. . .

So it is doubtful that smart investors are going to jump out when there are more gains to be made.

So I am still a believer that if we don't get a December sell-off of high-fliers and tech stocks. . . then it will come very late in January, in anticipation of the historical February sell-off. . . which will be brief, in my opinion. . .then we go back to a bullish leg through March. . .then we sell off as earnings week peaks are hit in April. . . .
