Would have been nice for Compaq to do this for shareholders with Altavista/CMGI: American Airlines Inc. parent AMR CORP (67-7/8, up 4-7/32 @ 10:12 am ET) said it would spin off its 83% interest in SABRE HOLDINGS CORP (55-3/8, up 3-1/2 @ 10:10 am ET), its computer travel reservation and information company. AMR. plans to distribute its 107 mln shares of Sabre common stock to AMR. shareholders, who will receive 0.7 shares of Sabre stock for each AMR. share. Prior to the spin-off, Sabre will pay a one-time $675 mln cash dividend, or about $5.21 per share, to its shareholders, including AMR.
