You're joking, right ?
Practically every telephone network in the world uses a Nortel DMS or Lucent 5E-SS. Practically every ISP, Carrier, IXC uses Cisco routers and switches. Practically every company with a strand of dark fiber lights it up using NT ot LU Sonet Optical gear. (And with the Cerent acquisition, CSCO as well). Every service provider on earth needs ethernet switches for lan extension or server farms. Every cable operator offering Internet access uses a head-end router by one of these three companies. MCI, Sprint, AOL are some of the worlds largest dial access customers of LU, NT and CSCO.
And oh, btw, they also sell ATM switches. That's why LU, NT and CSCO are worth HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS EACH and TM is trying to get $6 billion for NN.
NN doesn't even belong in the same sentence. But, I still think they're a good play. ALA, ERICY, Siemens have holes to fill and NN could help them out.
Remove those blinders, TA. The telecom world is a lot bigger than a 50 gig ATM switch.
