voop,

VCOs read volume controlled oscillators for GSM base stations.

VCOs are voltage controlled oscillators. They deliver an output frequency which is dependent on a control voltage which in turn is often produced under computer control.

They are used when there is a need rapidly to tune a transmitter or receiver to one of a large number of possible frequencies. They are widely used in cellular base stations and handsets.
