Peppe just relax. I am not burying your beloved CSCO. Relax. There is a place for all in the networking world. What I am saying is that there is also a place for ATMs at the backbone until we can figure out how to coordinate all these gazillion bits flying around without crashing, with QoS, so you can bill for it etc etc. A single platform such as NN offers has merits when you are a large carrier.
We are talking about the Large Carrier space, not the edge. I am sure the big 3 will do very well in the edge. But in the Carrier space we have seen CSCO and AT&T,ION,Telia and Manhattan and we have seen LU/ASND and MCI.
So they haven't solved it.
What these big guys want to do in the Carrier space is just buy the little co ( Cerent, Strata, ASND, Monterey ), slap their label on them and resell them to the Telcos.
Well telcos don't want that.
I'LL say it again:
Telcos can't afford to have ANY blackouts
Look what a blackout did to EBay for example.
And so far,
ARE YOU READY?
NN HAS HAD NO BLACKOUT!!
I rest my case.
You are on,
TA
