Didn't the Hunts corner the market - or nearly so? Was that a good thing in your eyes because the price went up. Weren't they engaged in gross manipulation?

If the exchanges at some point increase margin requirement are they being spoilsports or are they acting prudently? What scam are you talking about today? One expects people who run businesses to be able to do their due diligence. The people who managed Ashanti are surely to blame for the troubles that befell them? To blame the broker is like blaming a bank which forecloses on a business which has overextended itself. The bank may have been agressive or overeager - but ultimately the responsibility rests with the management who borrowed the money and ran the business into the ground. There are people on this thread and elsewhere who don't seem to realise that Barrick designed its hedging programme - the brokers jump to their tune.
