Re: Clandestine meeting
This is certainly an intriguing thought, but raises so many difficult to answer questions. First and foremost is who. Who, in general, does one meet secretly? A lover perhaps?
Recall that Suzanne a) had a boyfriend, b) kept a diary, c) had e-mail, d) had a sister, e) had a steady boyfriend, and f) none of the 100 or so people the NH police questioned said they had any hint Suzanne had a secret romantic relationship. Remember we're talking a college student here, not a secret agent!
So, if she wasn't "seeing" someone, who else might she have wanted to meet secretly? All I can think of is a drug dealer. However, there is no evidence whatsoever she ever did drugs.
Next, let's put aside our doubts and just assume she did manage to keep this person totally secret. If so, why not have him/her pick her up at her apartment? It's not like if someone happens to see Suzanne getting into a car that they are going to take down the plate numbers! I suppose you could argue that she was walking to his/her house. If so, wouldn't that make it far more likely she'd be "spotted"?
Lastly, if she did meet someone, we have to assume either she met the person who killed her, or the person she was going to meet is so concerned for their safety that they've kept silent all this time. As long as we are going down this road I'd assume the former.
So, to continue, we all seem to agree a car was used. This means either she was picked up far from her apartment (as she had already walked clear across the campus by the time she was last seen alive) or she immediately got in a car when she reached her destination. If we assume the former, the most likely meeting spot would have been in front of Phelps Gate, a major meeting area-- but we know she was last seen walking away from there, heading north on College. If we assume the latter, we have to tack on walking time meaning the escalation period from meeting to murder would have been quite small. Essentially she'd have to get in the killer's car immediately after walking all that distance. If a car was needed, why did she then have to walk all that distance in the first place?
So, once again, I can't see any strong logical reason that supports a clandestine meeting, on many levels.
