Well in our area there are programs that seem to attract great kids- whether they "make" them or just attract the best ones is an issue we could debate- but either way I want my kids in those programs- scouting and band are my favorites. The kids get to do LOTS of stuff in those programs- and they do the stuff with other kids, and they have the impression they are doing it on their own- but the parents put in tons of work behind the scenes to make everything happen. It is (as I imagine it) a huge safety net of parental hands, all clasped together, ensuring that the kids have the opportunity to excel and enjoy their activities. I could give you examples- if necessary.
