Most market makers always try to end each trading day "flat" (no un-hedged long or short positions). This idea of a "they" or "them" that are doing "things" is something I see all over SI. I think it is ridiculous. Market makers earn their living on the bid/ask spread. If you want to complain about the size of the bid/ask spread, then ... there is a logical topic to "whine" about !
