"PC makers report, however, that a shortage of Intel 700MHz and 733MHz Pentium III chips has eased over the past two weeks. Those chips are available in greater supply, they said. "

That's because the PC makers have already done shipping their Christmas inventories to stores. Most factories are preparing for Christmas shut down. Workers are let loose to go shopping or Christmas lunches. These are the reasons more 700 & 733 are available because they have missed the Christmas shipment.
