India's first medical portal launched

Mumbai, Dec 14: Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd and IIQ Investments on Monday launched India's first medical community portal, meditimes.com , which is designed to serve the country's above 1 million medical doctors. Meditimes.com provides medical doctors with round the clock online access to the latest medical information, regular updates, links to powerful, India-relevant, medical knowledge resources and reputed journals, etc. In addition, it allows doctors networks to facilitate exchange of ideas, experiences and information vital to the health of their patients. Satish Reddy, chairman of the new company, said: "Dr Reddy's Labs would have 65 per cent equity stake in the new company, while the rest will be held by IIQ Investments." He added that there are no plans to market their products through the company. "In fact, existing regulations disallow marketing of products through the Net," he said. The initial investment planned for the portal solutions is around Rs 4 crore. As many as 300 doctors have already registered with the company. "Our major revenues will come from partnerships and brokerages," he said.
