Without getting major advertising revenues and lucrative multimillion dollar partnerships, how does ATHM plan to pay for their alleged free dial up service?

AOL derives 67% of its revenue form subscriptions and 23.9%
from e-commerse and ad revenue, BB subscription fees account for only 34% of ATHM's total revenue (courtesy of gpowell on the @HOME board). Seems pretty obvious its the advertising that will drive the free access. In fact, Advertising and Ecommerce is a much bigger part of Excite@Home than it is for AOL. I heard someone suggest that people will pay for the content not the access. For dial up they may be right.. perhaps AOL should be looked at as the HBO of the internet? Just some thoughts. As i said before, I'm not sure exactly how this is going to effect @HOME yet.

We have seeing the demise of free computers with prepaid ISP subscriptions
True enough. But now try to buy a new computer without getting 1 year free access...

I own AOL stock and want whats best for the company. I just don't always paint a completely rosey picture about the companies I invest in.

The first part about "welcome aboard shorts" was that directed at me? I've never shorted a stock in my life. I would never want to profit off the misery of others, financially or socially.

Regards
Jay
