  December 14, 1999 09:51 PM  NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1999--The first ever VON pioneer awards were bestowed last night at a party given by pulver.com to celebrate its fifth anniversary. These awards recognized the efforts of some of those who played key roles in the birth of the Internet telephony industry during 1995 and '96. Honorees were: Elon Ganor for his work at VocalTec VOCL ; Howard Jonas, founder of IDT and Net2Phone IDTC ; Dan Berninger and Bruce Jacobs, cofounders of the VON Coalition; Jacob Davidson, who cofounded Delta-3, the first commercial next generation telephone company DDDC ; Joe Rinde of AT&T T for his contributions to the VON conferences; Robert Pepper of the FCC, for his early support of the growing industry; Joe McMillen and Dennis Specht for their work at Lucent, which was the first established telecommunications equipment vendor to develop a commercial gateway LU ; Jerry Chang, cofounder of Clarent CLARN ; and Ofer Gneezy, cofounder of iBasis IBAS . VocalTec was also recognized for its Internet phone 2.5.1. 
  Last night's party was held in New York City at SoHo's Puck building. The Puck building was the site of pulver.com's first conference, held in September 1996, which drew 225 participants. 3000 people participated in the organization's most recent VON (Voice on the Net) conference, which was held in September in Atlanta. In general, attendance at VON directly mirrors activity and interest in IP Telephony and can be used as a reliable gauge of the industry's growth.
