Well, Linux is Linux and one distribution is as good as the next, except for Corel's. Corel stripped out core functions like Netscape messenger, and then had the nerve to ship the Corel office product that wouldn't even work with their own Linux distribution. Why don't these trade-rag gurus realize that what they are comparing are install scripts. The fact is, they are all desperately trying to figure out what Linux is so they can write about it and at least sound intelligent.
Listen, independent users looked at Corel with an open mind and they wanted nothing more than for this anti-microshaft company to succeed. In the end they couldn't recommend it. Corel has been nothing more than a nutrient-free flea turd as far as Microsoft is concerned: utterly impotent and value-free. Can you imagine a company whose revenues are less than Bill Gates' cab fare has the nerve to compare itself to Microsoft? It's like the sluff off a dead bacterium trying to compare its intellect to a human brain.
You do know that there are children out there, literally, with their own Linux distributions? Undoubtedly better than Corel's, too.
If Corel were smart they would have had somebody other than Cowpland talking about their future plans because there are plenty of people who might have entertained the thought of Corel going somewhere with Linux until they heard Cowpland say it, thus assuring disaster.
I would recommend those interested in a Linux distribution with a future choose Redhat along with their package manager. The simple use of an automatic, single-user group also tells me they are on the ball in terms of simplifying and improving this environment. Hey, all the little things at up; in the case of Corel, all the little problems add up to a big headache.
In closing, I will leave you with a joke: Redhat is focused only on server-based offerings and Corel will capture the lion's share of the desktop market for Linux. If you did not start rolling on the floor and laughing your roflmao off when you heard that then you don't get it. That's the single biggest joke I have heard all year. Redhat is both a desktop and backroom operation. Those comments by Cowpland tell me that he still has no credibility and should not be listened too. They are just more words for him to eat when he does his usual trick: fail.
One more thing. I'm not saying he is stupid (I'm sure he'll be glad to hear that coming from me) and let's give him credit for hanging in there. I don't see no CEO placard on my desk and likely never will. Having said that I'm not holding Cowpland up to the candle of Joe Public but rather Joe Technology Company CEO. In that light, Cowpland has demonstrated he's taking the company nowhere, fast. |
