Nortel Networks and DST Innovis
Deliver High-Performance Internet to
Cable Subscribers

Industry's first carrier-class DOCSIS provisioning system enables ``plug-and-play' cable modem capabilities and integrated service billing

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ - Nortel Networks (NYSE/TSE: NT), a global leader in telephony, data, wireless and wireline solutions for the Internet, today announced the availability of the industry's first Internet-based, end-to-end customer care solution for CableLabs Certified
DOCSIS cable modems. The Cornerstone Cable Provisioning System 2000 (CPS 2000), which now interoperates with CyberCSR software from DST Innovis' (formerly CableData, Inc.), enables ``plug-and-play' cable modem installation while integrating cable modem and cable television
service billing and provisioning.

``Together with Nortel Networks, we are providing an answer to the complication of installing cable modems,' said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of strategic marketing for DST Innovis. ``By using CPS 2000 and CyberCSR, multiple service providers can reach out to the growing
population of savvy Internet users who want increased access speeds and the power to customize their own service.'

Developed by Arris Interactive, a Nortel Networks/Antec venture, the CPS 2000 is the first carrier-class provisioning platform with interfaces into a leading customer care and billing system.
By implementing CyberCSR in conjunction with the CPS2000, operators can allow their subscribers to self- register for cable modem service over the Web, eliminating the need for either a technician to provision their service or a customer service representative to make changes to their account. Cable operators can now realize the true benefits of retail strategies for delivering cable modems to consumers.

``Complex installation and management procedures have limited the efficient deployment of cable modem service,' said Stephen Pusey, president, Cable Media Solutions, Nortel Networks. ``The CPS 2000 and CyberCSR solutions now enable operators to automate the provisioning process, removing the barrier of costly truck rolls and putting cable operators on the fast track to maximum profit potential.'

With the CPS 2000, operators can seamlessly integrate their customer support systems with the provisioning process, eliminating double entries and speeding up the time-to-service delivery for subscribers. Benefits to operators include: subscriber self installation, reduction of provisioning time, distributed architecture which reduces unnecessary backbone traffic, and enhanced customer
service with quicker response times.

The CPS 2000 meets the provisioning challenges for large-scale cable modem deployments today, while providing an evolutionary platform for provisioning voice on tomorrow's IP networks. With support for almost one million DOCSIS devices on a single distributed system using multiple
servers, the CPS 2000 can easily handle the growth that operators are anticipating by adding new subscribers and services. CPS 2000's auto-provisioning support allows the automatic discovery of devices on the network so that manual intervention is not required to bring a modem on line,
significantly reducing the cost of provisioning manually.

CyberCSR combines the functionality of DST Innovis' billing systems, DDP/SQL or Intelecable, with Internet technologies to provide cable and telephony management services directly to the home user. CyberCSR reduces the call volume coming into a call center and increases customer
satisfaction by allowing the customer to seek out and find answers to their cable and telephony questions on-line.
