Winfire Announces Early Usage Metrics for its Browser Assistant, Citing Freerealtime.com as Initial Case Study to Validate Market Acceptance... NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Dec 15, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- 20,000 downloads of Freerealtime.com branded Browser Assistant in first month signals broad acceptance of product category and strategy Winfire, developers of the personalized Browser Assistant,(TM) a lightweight desktop application that works in conjunction with a user's Web browser, and Freerealtime.com (OTCBB:FRTI), a digital financial media company offering real-time market quotes and online financial information, today released some of the industry's first consumer usage metrics in the growing browser assistant category - figures that both companies see as signaling strong acceptance of the product category. Since becoming publicly available in early November, more than 20,000 people have downloaded and registered for the Freerealtime.com branded Winfire Browser Assistant. Winfire currently has more than 100 content and distribution partners, including Freerealtime.com, iVillage.com, The Weather Channel(R) Web site, weather.com, UpsideToday.com, Heat.net, The Sporting News and Rosenbluth Interactive's Biztravel.com. According to Freerealtime.com President and CEO Brad Gunn, the Winfire Browser Assistant resulted in a 300 percent increase in traffic to Freerealtime.com's "Watch List," a feature on the Freerealtime.com site, and one of the many custom services accessible through the Winfire Browser Assistant. In the first month following the launch of its branded Browser Assistant and branded services, Freerealtime reports that nearly one-third of the visitors to the Browser Assistant download page converted to registered downloads. Additionally, Winfire reports that more than 25 percent of the users of the Winfire-branded Browser Assistant are using a Freerealtime.com service such as the WatchList or Ticker. "Since we launched our Freerealtime branded Winfire Browser Assistant, it has made a significant positive impact on site traffic, and has become a useful free service for our members," said Gordon Rix, VP and executive producer of Freerealtime.com. "In addition to providing our members with continuous, one-click access to our site, Winfire's Browser Assistant has secured valuable real estate on our members' PCs for Freerealtime.com's financial services. We're particularly pleased with the exposure the Winfire Browser Assistant has given us on other sites, effectively attracting a new audience to Freerealtime.com." Rix added that Freerealtime.com has already introduced the free Winfire Browser Assistant by e-mail to more than 50,000 of its members, and plans to send it to an additional 450,000 members before the Christmas holidays. "The early download and usage figures posted by Freerealtime.com demonstrate the acceptance of the Winfire Browser Assistant as a valuable tool among people that want a better, faster and easier way to get relevant information from the Web," said David Kopp, CEO of Winfire. "Freerealtime.com has proved to be a great first-mover case study, and we look forward to working with them and our many other partners to reach millions of users with niche-specific custom desktop applications."
