Companies using WinCE:
AT&T, Compaq, HP, Sharp, Ericsson, and I think Sony.

Does that qualify as clout?

I'm not claiming Microsoft has won, but they can put a lot of effort behind the move to wireless/palmtop/settop.

What happens when the devices will improve in capabilities to the point where they could fit Win2000 on them? Then the only thing Microsoft is missing is a nice GUI shell for small displays. That's not a big deal. They will have to work on stability and boot time. That's harder. But they're learning from WinCE.

Can Palm and/or Symbian keep their lead?

I don't know the answer, but it's a very long stretch to say Microsoft "doesn't have a prayer."
