Scott, I have read the market share in so many places that I have not bothered to store the info. Actually I thought I was being conservative because I was certain that I read 69% just recently. In less than a week we will begin to see how 3Com and its' Palm division faired in the latter quarter. Do bear in mind that the revenues generated from the Nationwide introduction of the Palm VII and its Palm.net are for only 6 weeks, because they were introduced only in the middle of October.
When you consider the impressive array of Palm licensees, IBM, NOK, SONY, NTT DeCoMo, Symbol, TRG, Handspring etc., and now MOT, and you consider the recent apostates from the Windows CE platform, Everex, Sharp, Phillips and apostate to be CPQ, you can't help but accept the Palm OS as the fait accompli of the PDA domain. You should also note that there are now almost 30,000 PalmOS developer and they are growing at a pace of 500 per week. I was recently apprised by a Palm insider that they will be introducing a color version of the Palm and that Sony is playing a major role in this development.
In the mean time we have all ignored that 3Com is spending $600 million a year in R&D and they have an impressive array of Wireless and Broadband patents. They were impressive enough to stoke IBM, the leader in Patent registration in the past 8 years, to barter their impressive repertoire of patents with 3Coms Wireless patents. The more due diligence you do concerning the company the closer you will get to Elderado. The more you wait the greater the chance of you seeing more people at Elderado, hence you will have to share what is left. Remember, the God of Opportunity is not forgiving. |
