Ten,
RE:"So which is it? Shortage of Coppermines? Too many Coppermines but not enough 820 motherboards? Or maybe more than enough 820 motherboards, but no demand for Rambus because of the high prices?"...

It's been all of the above. You just haven't been putting it all together which is a big surprise to me. I guess I could list the total floppermine launch debacle but I've done it so many times before, I won't.
Needless to say Intel will correct most or all of these problems.
I never said they wouldn't. Intel is the greatest chip manufacturer there has ever been, especially when it comes to volume and low cost.
The Solano will get the Intel back in the main stream and RAMBUS prices will come down eventually. Problem is that Solano itself may help derail Intels plans to make RAMBUS main stream...and in turn cause Intel to lose some of the control they so lovingly covet.
The main problem is that TIME is a critical factor in the chip race, particularly when a little upstart company 1/60th the size of Intel with a kamakazie at the controls is peppering you with a big Athlon gun. Losing the Mhz and FPU took a lot of Intels luxuries away...
Their problems seem so much more magnified now....like AMDs always have.

Regards, Jim
