SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Fifteen companies found
themselves in the hot seat Wednesday after the California Public
Employees Retirement System said it may add them to its
notorious "corporate governance list."

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD: news,
msgs), J.C. Penney (JCP: news, msgs), First
Union (FTU: news, msgs) and Rite Aid (RAD:
news, msgs) are among the companies
being considered for this year's list, which is
due out in mid-February, said Calpers
spokesman Brad Pacheco.

The list is closely watched by other funds and
by individual investors because of the
enormous power wielded by the pension
fund's board when it takes an activist role in guiding corporate
policy.

Kind of makes you go.....hmmmmm.
