Charlie, you point of view is very simplistic b/c you are comparing apples and oranges.
JNPR so call state of art router, do not support many features ATM switches NN or LU support.
Do not have QoS, and is not used in core networks of ATT,SBC,BT etc.
All these networks would be in deep trouble with JNPR gears.
Again why SBC networks,SBC new 6 billions Pronto project or BT network do not even consider JNPR router in the core.
JNPR routers are great form IP networks where Qos and mulitiservices are not the key issue.
To develop great ATM switch/router is very complicated process.
ASND has 25 gig and it will take another year to make higher newer switch.
I had opportunity to look at 50-450 gig data.
I tell you forget about JNPR gears, specially when 450 gig will be availably at summer, but even 50 gig outperforms JNPR.
You may say, NN 50 gig have to past the test .
Of course, but did you ever hear about NN products which were sent to carrier and did not pass.
NN is often criticize for paying to much attention to quality!!!

BTW, every startup/small company will have greater speed in R&D then bigger, and NN admitted that was focusing on to many things.
No doubts about that.
