There's another question of the GPL: Given the economic model of applications through service providers (and billing in place of selling), doesn't that heavily favor the larger ASP over the little guy? The ASP can package freeware (including GPL) as a 'service' whereas the guy who *wrote the free (free as in freekin') software and presumably licensed it under the GPL isn't allowed to profit from it traditionally, except in competition with the ASP billing machine. -- I can see where Java is going to be a magnet for indy software developers. I'm not sure GPL is such a great friend to software developers who aren't kernel hackers and low level services (*nix features) guys. --- PD favors the bigger entity because of it's ability to better leverage and execute the 'brand' (branded service). GPL favors the bigger entitiy because it practically requires the software developer to be employed by the bigger entity 'services' company. --- The classical software entrepreneur (then) develops Java. --- Mitch? -JCJ
