if I understand all the licensing deals with Microsoft correctly, GMST is all over this news.

Could you please elaborate? As I understand it, the main thrust of that article and other press releases I've seen relating to it doesn't address technologies covered by Gemstar's patents. If I remember correctly, IBM has the current lead on the technologies that allow the end user to click on an actor's sweater to get to a website advertising and selling the sweater.

To change the subject slightly, the article mentioned that Microsoft and Excite are partnering to develop enhanced television. I remember reading a few months ago about an emerging technology that Excite dominates. It's not a technology that is at the forefront of the news these days, but I remember thinking that, "Ah, so Excite might be a gorilla in a niche market." Does anyone remember what that niche might be as I'm thinking it has something that could be used in conjunction with enhanced television.
