Dan:
This fellow start out not too badly... First he points out that the Pharisees whom Jesus condemned with His words were abiding in a law other than the Law that God gave referred to as "traditions of the Elders"
Matthew 15:2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
Jesus marks a huge difference between the Law that God gave and the Law that the Church did and still does develop!
I am not talking about any traditions of the Church!
I am talking about the TEN COMMANDMENTs of GOD.. even the 4th.
You do well to try to accuse me of being a legalist or to push " my law" upon you.... then you will not need to worry about pleasing God at all if you as you say:
RE>>as described by you...NO I don't. <<
What is wrong with how I have describe the 4th command Dan.
You have had lots of opportunity to prove I am wrong by the Word of God.
Or do you just "label me" and walk away with no proof that I am pushing the Laws or Traditions of men upon people.
Is it a fact..Or Convenient Opinion for one who does Break the 4th Command and does not want to repent ?
RE>>). Incredibly, Jesus summed up the whole Law and the teaching of the prophets with these two commandments. <<
Dan why does this man say " Incredibly "..does He not know that Moses gave those two great Commands What is incredible about Jesus knowing what He told Moses to say?
RE>>Ten Commandments have an abiding quality about them. They convey duties for everyone and reveal to us the basic morality required by God<<
Exactly true.. not one jot or tittle...
RE>>Jesus inaugurated a new era in which the Law as understood by the Jews of His day would no longer be the guiding principle for the Kingdom of God <<
This is a very vague statement Dan.. One does not know if he refers to the "traditions of men ( elders ) Which not true protestant would abide.
God alone is the Lord of the conscience and has left it free from the doctrines and commandment of men.
Also:
The Bible is the ONLY RULE of faith and practice.
Those are the two great decrees of the reformation.
I am binding no one to anything that God has not bound them to. We are bound to serve God and not sin:
Romans 5:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
RE>>Jesus inaugurated a new era in which the Law as understood by the Jews of His day would no longer be the guiding principle for the Kingdom of God <<
As understood by the JEWS is far to great a brush to paint with. There are men today who believe that they are justified by what they DO. There were Jews back then who understood Salvation by Grace.
Jesus speak of both "kinds" in His parable:
The self-righteous... Luke 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are , extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
The saved sinner... Luke 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
They are both still called to obey the Ten Commandments Dan.
RE>>Jesus simply emphasized them in a way that would forever change how we should look at them. <<
That is not true..there is not CHANGE they are to be seen as God has always intended them to be seen. God does not change nor does His Word or intents.
Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Evil men added to the Law of God so much so that Jesus said they had effectively made His Hole Law of "no effect". The replaced God's true law with man made ones that suited their flesh and desires and overthrew God's intended spiritual principles that they are based on.
Moses said " thou shalt Love the Lord your God with all your heart "
Moses said " thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself even the stranger"
Moses got those commandments from Jesus.
Jesus was only repeating what Moses had said.. He was not changing a single Jot or Tittle of their intended MEANING or PURPOSE or Wording That is wrong to say.
RE>>If persons were to become children of God, it would be by means other than keeping the Law. <<
This person you have quoted must be a dispensationalist.
How was Abel saved..by the Keeping of the Moral Law or by Faith?
How was Moses saved....by the Keeping of the Moral Law or by Faith?
How was David saved .....by the Keeping of the Moral Law or by Faith?
Which one of them ever said that the Law was not the rule of moral practice for the " Faithful"?
RE>>Paul saw the Law as no longer to be viewed legalistically. <<
What does this man mean by the statement "no longer" or the term "legalistically"
He is speaking of the whole but mankind is not a whole. There are those who attempt to be saved "legalistically today and then" and those who saw salvation as a Gift "before Christ and now"
Also.. this fellow has not made mention of the fact that in the New Testament the word "Law" is used to describe both moral and ceremonial law and that the reader must very carefully make that distinction as I pointed out in my previous post.
RE>>It is important for us to remember that love can never be adequately portrayed in rules or in teachings. <<
How do men "Love their enemies" if not by actions based on rules and teachings of God? Surly we do not "feel" all warm and fuzzy toward those who are our enemies... if so ,, how then are they enemies? What remains to be "felt" toward our friends :-}
RE>>Moving from outward observance to inward motivation and intention is Jesus' concern <<
This is my concern as well.. It has always been God's. I do not say that men grievously obey God's Law.. Indeed God has promised blessing to those who follow both in spirit and truth.
I tell you the truth.
It is not LOVE to cause anyone to Work on the Sabbath!
The new Testament does not change the "meaning of Love or of God's Law" that has always been the same.
The Bible teaches that LOVE is obeying the commandments of God toward both Him and Others... that is TRUE and BIBLICAL LOVE.
Any man who says He loves God and does not do his best to keep His commandments is a Liar.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
If you LOVE GOD will you "use His name in vain"?
If you love God will you also "have other Gods in His sight"?
If you love God will you make Idols outwardly or inwardly?
If you Love God and His worship .. will you not take 1 day of 7 and tithe it to Him and not only selfishly but also give that opportunity to every creature and even your enemies by allowing them the day off work?
I would like to see this fellow who wrote this article tell us all what biblical Love is and how it is described in the Bible. He will not do it without Law.
I had a fellow one time quote this verse to me Dan:
2 Corinthians 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
Then He said we are no longer "under" the Ten Commandments because God has written His Law of Love on our Hearts...
I asked Him if that law on his heart said to him " Thou shalt not kill" He said yes....
I asked Him if that law on his heart said to him " Thou shalt not commit adultery" He said yes....
I asked Him if that law on his heart said " Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain"
He said "Ok stop you win".... God won and HE WON ! He heard.
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Romans 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Men go to hell for SIN.
1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Breaking the Ten Commandments is of the Devil
Those who say Jesus did away with or changed the meaning or intent of the Moral Law are working for him...
They need to REPENT and be SAVED |
