Agree with that consensus, but what I hope for is that NTAP can elaborate and leverage their mirroring, backup/restore, and particularly caching software to create customer investment in the convenience and performance, thus raising switching costs, thus converting this to a gorilla game.
I don't think EMC's DataGeneral storage has much of a chance (though "rising tide, float all boats, etc"), as EMC's selling point is premium execution at premium price, and either EMC has to price the low end storage at a premium (and loses except for brand name), or EMC prices it competitively and loses money because their customers will demand traditional EMC service performance.
Leaving NTAP as the clear projected winner, whether Gorilla or just King TBD.
Goal for 2010: "Nobody ever got fired for buying NTAP!"
