Glen: Did you see todays G&M. NT has many pages of write up. The future of Optics and IP was also discussed.

The Optic world will in 24 mths be in deep trouble. To start off they have a speed constraint. So the only thing available to play around is bandwidth and transmission. Plenty of Bandwidth is currently available. The line width can be reduced to 0.1nm quite easily. Now NT has disturbed the transmission end. This bound has been extended to 2000 kms. Hence a lot of the suppliers for amplifiers, intensifiers, Pumps, Filters and Fibre will be facing excess capacity. The only market that will boom are the
Optical cross connects and Mux/Demux eqpt together with
the Electro-Optic switch manufacturers at the Edge.

It is most likely that with an oversupply, Fibre will move into the Copper domain and make an attempt at replacing Copper with Fibre on very dense Copper Last miles.

How will NN fare in this new development.?
