David, to my knowledge, there are no efforts to develop artificial intelligence-based assistance in editing visual material. We can barely get computers to recognize the difference between a circle and a square, much less ask them to put together an aesthetically pleasing edited video.

As a creative communicator with many years of experience, I know that it is how the message is conceived and executed that determines quality--not the quality or affordability of the tools to create visual content. A paintbrush or chisel does not create a work of art anymore than a hammer can build a home. Artists and craftsman bring a wealth of experience and wisdom in addition to creative inspiration when they use these tools. I am not worried that a computer is going to take this advantage away anytime soon. Perhaps in 2050. Then again, maybe you know something I don't about AI?

The "democratization" of creative tools and their growing access is an exciting byproduct of technological innovation. It happened with desktop publishing, digital audio/music, and now it's happening with digital video. The only difference is that many more people will have the opportunity to use tools once available to a only a few experienced professionals. And some of them will succeed, but many won't.
