It won't make much difference whether you use the switch or use crossover cables for 2 computers. It won't make it harder either. There isn't much difference in cable costs either. As to the internal versus external DSL, I have the external myself. I didn't have a choice with my phone company. I haven't research the advantages/disadvantages of internal versus external. I have always been partial to external modems myself. Sorry I couldn't help. You may want to search around www.deja.com for some comments.
