Washington--Dec 16--The US Treasury Department said it would make a
special direct investment of $6.071 billion Thursday in tax and loan note
accounts at participating banks.

Treasury said the direct investment total represents 59% of the amount
banks can accept under Treasury procedures for Special Direct Investments
with same-day's notice.
Treasury said Wednesday's direct investment totaled $29.208 billion.
