R E P E A T/ - JAWS Technologies First to Provide End-to-End Security Solutions for Linux Operating System
Eighteen months of development results in a completely secure data solution for Linux users
CALGARY, Dec. 13 /CNW/ - JAWS Technologies Inc., (JAWZ: OTC-BB) today announced that the company has developed the first commercially available end-to-end enterprise security solution for the Linux operating system. Developed by JAWS Data Vault Division (formerly Offsite Data Services) and JAWS Security Products Division, the new Linux-based products and services offer secure remote data storage capabilities, supplemented by JAWS' proprietary security encryption products. These products include XMail, L5 Encryption for the Desktop, and a soon to be released gateway server-based solution for encrypting corporate email.

In development for the past eighteen months, this complete end-to-end business enabling security solution for the Linux environment will facilitate simple, convenient and cost-effective solutions for organizations that require reliable, secure transmission, back-up and storage of mission-critical data on the Linux platform.

``JAWS is committed to providing universally accessible, comprehensive information security solutions in the business to business arena across all operating system,' said Robert Kubbernus, CEO of JAWS Technologies. ``In addition to our new Linux offering, JAWS' remote Data Vaulting solutions support 23 other operating systems including all the Microsoft clients, Digital Unix, Sun O/S, SQL, Oracle, Lotus Notes/Domino and Macintosh. Consistent with our long-term commitment of offering a wide range of world class security solutions to our customers, this Linux development demonstrates our ability to bring solid security products to the market.'

Linux is a powerful and reliable platform, and one that is gaining wide popularity among industries and organizations. A recent U.S. survey conducted by RHI Consulting found that 57 percent of chief information officers (CIOs) believe that the use of Linux in the business environment will increase significantly over the next three years. According to International Data Corporation, Linux is currently being used by more than 15 million people worldwide, and 750,000 servers are using the operating system.

``Our Linux initiatives have been led by customer demand, and we expect to sign a number of significant alliances for these products over the next short period of time,' said Trent Johnsen, President, Offsite Data Services. ``Installation of our Linux product family is currently scheduled to begin in the first week of January for those customers who have already requested this platform.'

JAWS will take to the road in a major North American marketing campaign to demonstrate the company's end-to-end security solutions for Linux and other operating systems. The extensive media and analyst tour will begin on January 11, 2000. JAWS' Linux products are the result of eighteen months of development, and today's announcement coincides with the U.S. government announcement that new relaxed rules on the export of encryption products will be released by January 14.

The technology behind the Linux-based data storage system was made possible through JAWS' recent acquisition of Offsite Data Services - a leader in the Internet-based data storage management industry, and was complemented by JAWS programming for this operating system. Upon completion of the acquisition, which is expected to close January 4, 2000, Offsite Data Services will be marketed as a separate division - `JAWS Data Vault Division' providing targeted market data vaults such as ``JAWS ASP Vault', ``JAWS Medical Vault', ``JAWS Law Vault' and ``JAWS Financial Vault' that will complement the company's existing information security solutions.
