Compaq Extends Wholesale E-payment
Solution to NonStop(TM) Himalaya and Tru64 UNIX

Compaq Offers Banks Broadest Platform Choice; Partners with Fundtech, and
Software Integrators to Deliver Integrated Solution

HOUSTON, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its overall Compaq NonStop(TM) eBusiness strategy,
Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today announced it has expanded capabilities of
the Compaq NonStop(TM) Payments Factory to provide the industry's most scalable wholesale
payments e-payment solution. The Compaq NonStop(TM) Payments Factory was introduced as a
Windows NT® Server-based intra-day liquidity management solution that reflects the activity
enterprise-wide across the wholesale bank. This solution not only provides intra-day liquidity functions
but also integrates legacy wholesale banking-related applications with data and processing functions
making high- value payments processing more efficient and cost-effective. Compaq now offers these
solutions on the Compaq NonStop(TM) Himalaya servers and a version that runs on the Compaq Tru64
UNIX® platform will be available early next year. In addition to a choice of platforms, Compaq provides
the applications, services, and the support needed for a robust wholesale e-payment solution-key
elements for mission-critical banking.

''With today's global businesses moving to 24 hour operations and industry consolidations increasing,
the risk inherent in high value payments processing also increases,'' said Andrea Klein, vice president of
Financial Services Industry Solutions at Compaq. ''Compaq offers the choice of multiple platforms and
the high availability and scalability of systems that are essential for a continuously available wholesale
payments solution for banks of all sizes. The Compaq NonStop(TM) Payments Factory solution
addresses these changes in the industry and supports straight-through processing and real-time gross
settlement practices that help reduce costs and risk of human error, as well as expedite the settlement
of payments in real time.''

Platform Choice Provides Scalability

The Compaq NonStop(TM) Payments Factory solution is currently available on the industry leading
Compaq ProLiant NT servers running on Windows NT Server, as well as the highest available and
fault-tolerant Compaq NonStop(TM) Himalaya servers. Providing more choice and yet another level of
high performance, Compaq will offer the solution on Compaq AlphaServer systems running the Tru64
UNIX operating system. The solution provides seamless integration of the applications on combinations
of these platforms, as well as the consistent and accessible data required for risk monitoring in
commercial banks, central banks and multibank agencies. Compaq Services provides a complete set of
professional services for the Compaq NonStop(TM) Payments Factory solution including consulting,
customization, integration, and installation of the hardware and software that ensures conformance with
domestic payment systems such as FedWire and international funds transfer systems such as SWIFT.

Partners Bring Expertise and Pre-Integrated Software Solutions

Partnerships are an integral part of the Compaq NonStop(TM) Payments Factory and key to meeting
the unique needs of banking customers. Compaq has partnered with best of breed experts Fundtech
and Software Integrators, to integrate specialized software with Compaq hardware platforms.
Fundtech -- Provides PAYplus RTGS, a client/server funds transfer payment system that supports
payment processing, liquidity management, and Real Time Gross Settlement capabilities on Compaq
ProLiant and AlphaServer platforms.

-- Software Integrators -- Provide COPE and STAR, which serve as the
central control point where the integrated payments database, real
time monitoring and reporting, and payment processing capabilities
take place. This solution scales to the very largest financial
institutions and runs on Compaq NonStop(TM) Himalaya servers.

These new partnerships expand on the relationships already in place with FICS, Fircosoft, Financial
Systems Technology, Insider Technologies, and NEON, adding value and functionality to Compaq's
product offerings on one or more platforms.
